Had to stop at a yard sale yesterday and spotted this. I thought it was a worksman from the frame and wheels, but it was an Emory. Every Emory I have ever seen is poor quality, made cheaply to stay in business. They are still American made, right here in Jacksonville. The new ones go for 459 and aren't this good in quality. This had a pair of small apehangers and front basket that will go on my oldest daughter's bike. The wheels are dated 1979.

I figured the guy would want 50 bucks or more, but he asked for 30. The wheels have very heavy spokes, bigger than those on my tandem wheels. My wife always tries to get a bargain, so she offered 20 bucks, no dice. So, after some heavy negotiation back in the truck, I bought it. I've only gone over it with a wet rag, the chrome still needs polishing. It looks like they used Schwinn forks and handlebar stem.

I'll definately ride it. This says "hand built" while all the other Emorys I've seen say "robot built" and are rugged, but really crude. They look like a high school welding project. This one is actually on par with a Worksman.

Well, I couldn't find a serial number so I emailed the company, Aero-fast.

They replied with alot of info. The frame is actually a Rollfast, they used them when they first started in 1976. The forks are ABS drop forged, Astabula Bow Socket, and the spokes are .120 guage. They make all their own frames and forks now, so they are "different".

So it's a Rollfast.

I just answered a CL ad. 2 Emorys for 25 bucks. I got a reply, no one beat me to them, so I pick them up tomorrow. The women's is a match for my Super deLuxe, with the good forks, same color and everything is there. The man's bike is the normal Emory, good, but not outstanding like the Rollfasts. I'll post up some pics tomorrow. There goes my beer money for next week.

I rode the Baldwin Rail Trail today, 25 miles of it on my Emory. It's an industrial bike and after 15 miles, I was feeling my oats. But it was great.

They were what I thought they were. The women's is the same as my first one, but doesn't have thick spokes. The men's has thick spokes and is the robot built kind. It also has a nice basket on the front. The women's has a rear hub I've never seen. I think it's a 2 speed, and the shifter says Torpedo. A 100 mile drive, but worth it to me.

Fichtel & Sachs made two speed hubs, but the ones looking like yours where kickback hubs, without the little chain and cable, so I think it's a three speed.
You could google for "torpedo zweigang nabe" (two speed) or " torpedo dreigang nabe" (trhee speed) for some pictures/drawings.
