How much leverage must this place on the seat post to be able to be that long and bulky AND hold the front wheel of the towed bike off the ground, plus, there's a hinge!

Seems like a cool idea since it folds down, in case you wear your kid out riding and they need a lift, but there's got to be some serious stress issues with that thing. I'd imagine the attachment point to the child's bike would want to try and "fold".
 
I have a friend who used one but it was used to tow an adaptive trike. He never had any problems with it, but I would not use that on high end , lightweight bike.
