It looks like there will be an attempt to successfully jump the Snake River Canyon next year on the 40th Anniversary of the failed jump. It is starting to create a buzz locally eventhough it is a year away. TwinFalls is about 90 miles from Boise, so you can bet I will be there. Five groups are looking to use the landing site which is owned by the state of Idaho, but only 1 will be successful in leasing the property.

A few of the teams have FB pages too.

Uncanny. Just last week i was reminiscing about Evel's interview on the Jim Rome radio show.
Evel quipped, "I don't see no young daredevils lining up to give it (Snake River Canyon) a try."
With the advancements in electronics and computer modelling in the last 40 years, one of these new
teams will certainly succeed.

The high bidder was Big Ed Beckley. He bid about $1,000,000 that goes into the Endowment fund for Idaho Schools. This will be fun to follow and I have it on the Calendar.

I watched a documentary that said Evel may have pulled the chute on purpose and staged the whole thing as a PR stunt.

I am kinda disappointed in the plan to make it across.

"I'll hit that takeoff ramp next October and boom! It will be a rocket engine that will get me to maybe 240 mph and it will kick my bike out of gear," said Beckley. "It will burn for 3.4 seconds and then at an apex of the arc over the canyon, I'll run out of [rocket] fuel. Then we'll deploy a chute, just like a parasail, and I'll click the bike back into gear and when I touch down, I'll ride away."

I wasn't impressed with the original Evil Knievel rocket either. I was expecting a motorcycle like all of his other jumps. Of course I was 12 at the time. :)
