Very nice looking Schwinn American, with what looks to be a rare brake option on the front, ( clamp on brake ???) Someone fill me in on this, thanks

Those brakes were standard issue on the 1955 Americans. I had a red one with the same brakes on it and if you got them adjusted rite they were pretty decent. I seen a rough set go for $80 on the schwinn site and the little clip thats holding it from the frame are hot items also
