A local guy wants $75 for this fast back. I'm going to go look at it myself tomorrow and see how rough it really is but I think I'll end up getting it...any opinions?

id say that it is worth it, but ultimatly it is how much do you want it. i have been looking for or to build a fastback for a few months, so id jump all over it myself. it does look to be an old school schwinn, and they are built to last. $75 sounds pretty fair to me. looks like a nice bike too, once cleaned up. good luck.

SO! I bought it for $75 and it's going to clean up real pretty. I'll put up some pics soon. It needs all new cables, a seat, some grips, and I'm unsure if I want to try and clean up the wheels or buy new ones  but I'm cheap and have no money so they'll likely be cleaned up..and the pedals don't match so I'm going to steal some off of my other stingray that doesn't get as much lovin'

what are you using to clean the chrome? Ive had worse on schwinns and got them shiny again using a brass brush and wd40, it takes a lot of scrubbing though. good luck you got a good deal on it

Do you have any pre-war Schwinn parts? I'll trade you a new pair of green glitter (centennial 1995) grips for 2 chain adjustor bolts. Gary

That looks like a nice bike $75 I paid $150 for one of mine, you need a chrome chaingaurd and a front fender. Barkeepers friend will clean your chrome. If you are broke keep it a rideable rat until you get everything you want for it. Have fun with and please show us your update pics.

I'll take some pics soon. I got the whole head tube apart and cleaned up the chrome. I've been using 0000 steel wool, and CLR when it's necessary. The steel wool isn't too abrasive for it. It's not so rideable right now, the chain needs a good soaking, needs new cables, and new wheels if I manage to find some...but I have no problem riding on rusty ones till then!

Nice find, would've been hard for me to pass up. I've had good results cleaning chrome with 0000 steel wool dipped in Turtle Wax chrome cleaner. I think Schwinn chrome was above average, and I've cleaned some really nasty rust off to reveal decent chrome underneath. I always try to say the OG Schwinn stuff cuz once it's gone........
