I own two Electra Townies and have put Fat Frank Tires on both of them. On the second bike, the local bike store in Palm Springs that I thought I trusted, returned the bike to me with the tires looking much smaller. I examined the sizes on both bikes carefully and the Fat Franks are exactly the same size on both bikes (2.35). I can only surmise that the bike shop put in tubes that are too small. The tubes they put in are 26 x 1.5/2.3. Can anyone send me some thoughts on this? Thanks!!

I guessing it has something to do with the rim width instead of the tubes. They will look different depending on the rim width.

Yes it is the rim width that makes a difference. I don't put Fat Franks on rims with 1.5" width, but love them on either 1.75 araya rims or 2.25 ukai rims.

the "townie" and "townie balloon" models have different rims on them. Are they the same models ? Could be a rim change from year to year too. I know my 2010 has 32h "townie" decaled single wall rims, they are now advertising double walls on the non-balloon models and 36h on the balloon models. tubes are shaped by the tires though. psi rating the same on the tires as the previous set ?

I used regular 26 - 2.125 tubes with my FF's. no problems so far, I bet they are stretched out inside the tire, but so far no problem.
