hi,
i have 26x2.125's now - physically how much wider is the 26x3? if i have roughly a 1/2" on each side should they fit?

how much taller is the 3" wide tire? from the top of the 26x2.125, i have an extra inch to play with.

if this doesn't fit, are there any other widths available between 2.125 and 3?

thanks again for the help.

3" tires are 3" wide. (just shy if the rims are narrow)

ususally when i mount 3" tires on adult frames, i'll drop to a 24" rim with 3" tire.
a 24" rim with a 3" tire will only be a touch smaller than your 26" rim with the 2.125 tire.

One of the biggest problem areas for clearance I found for wider tires is where the chain stays fork off the BB. If you can clear that your home free. You want to try to get the wheel as far back in the drop out as you can even if you have to add extra links. One of the most popular tires in between 2.125" and 3" are the Fat Franks at 2.35". If you put these on a regular 2.125 size rim they usually don't give you any trouble. If you buy wheels with larger rims to match the 2.35 tires you start getting tighter on clearance. If you have mutiple bikes you can experiment with tires as some will work differently on different frames. If you happen to have a 24" wheel the 3" tires are very tall for the 24" and they look super HOT!. So, budget may have a bearing on this also. There are also many outfits selling tires of all widths, style, tread - it's like Christmas for tires. If you need links to these places just ask on a post and these guys will direct you to all kinds of goodies. Mostly, HAVE FUN!!!

after some debating, i went with the nirve badhinaman flame tire front and back. i saw that tire mounted in the store next to the ones i have and that style gives a bit more width. plus $20 with free shipping on amazon isn't a bad deal at all - with the money i saved i was able to get the apehangers i wanted. once this 115+ heat subsides a little i will go out and install everything.
