I'm working on a '60s AMC ladies tank bike for my fiance. The problem is that the light that was on the front of the tank is long gone leaving several screw holes in the tank sections. I was wondering if anyone has a n easy method of filling these and leaving a nice smooth surface. I thought about using autobody filler. Just curious what methods any of you folks may have used.

Like you said you can use bondo. If the tank is metal you can also use some jb weld.

Aaah, JB weld. Hand't thought of that. I've never used it on anything that needed to look good...just old mufflers. Does it sand and finish well?

the long pain in the butt way is to fit a bolt or screw through the hole, weld it in place, then cut it flat to the surface you are filling. grind/smooth it all out.. and like he said, it was never there.Sort of the rube goldberg method of filling a hole but for some larger holes its the way to do it.

Yeah you can sand it down smooth then primer over it.

sensor you and i are bad i thought the same thing. you cant beat steel its real

I don't have access to a welder so I used the ol' JB to fill the holes. Actually, picked up some JB Kwik and was able to fill and sand in one evening. The tank turned out really well. When I get a chance, I'll post some pictures of my build progress in the "Builds" forum.
