Is that like going from a Chevy to finally owning a Porche?

It's been beat on pretty hard, my neighbor sold it to me and said he rode it all over Alaska.
It needs a lot of love. The chain is off and rusty as heck, the back brake cable is frozen, front works.
No telling what else it will need to get back on the road.

I aired up the tires and rinsed the mud off it for a few pictures.

I'm thinking of flipping it on CL as-is. Any idea what I should ask for this train wreck?
Would parting it out be a better plan?

Hmm...As is i would get around $45-$55 Tops....

I dont know what it is. Schwinnmesa could get at least $90.Hes in grand rapids.

But, that bike doesnt look so bad, just invaluable around here

I had a couple of friends with that particular model and they used to fail at the rear dropouts. That cantilever dropout was not a good idea with aluminum. As far as parting it, there's not really anything high-end component-wise probably best to keep it together in case you run across a Cannondale homer on CL who wants it stock.

I think I could get $75 off that with a working chain. Might be worth it to take the chain off and soak in simple green or oxalic acid first.

Thanks once again for the extra info.

I think I'll try to get the chain back on the cogs and see if I can make the wheels go round and round and put it up on CL as-is.

I have too many projects to spend any time on this one, but I think that it would make a nice bike with some love and attention.

My neighbor dragged it out of his leaky shed, out from under a bunch of boxes of junk. If you knew how he keeps up his property, you wouldn't have been surprised that he let this expensive bike go like this. :D

I raced BMX bikes for a guy who owned a shop called "Mike's Bikes" in the '80s. He invited me on a mountain bike ride when Cannondale first came out. They were the hot new business. He put me on a brand new shop bike and I brought it back with a bent frame.

They are still cool and I would entertain owning one as I am not as hard on bikes as I once was.

Update: Let it go to the first CL buyer who showed up. asked $99 - took $75. I did OK.

Lots of calls after that, might have got the original asking price, but it looks a lot better than it is IMHO, and in the buyer's opinion as well.

Off to a new home!

BTW: my hat is off to the member here who suggested listing on CL "Today Only". It has been working very well for me. If my listing does not sell today, I take it down, and don't have to dedicate any time to the selling, except when I want to. Before I take the listing down, I copy the text of the listing and paste it into a MS Word document, and "save as" it into the folder on my PC where the bike pictures are. I can then easily re-list it later without out re-typing everything, especially all the photo bucket HTML links.
