i bought a book on hawthorne/elgin/monark?? bikes. in it it shows accessories for bikes each year. i'll dig it out and post. i was wondering about the same thing cause i had one like that too and wondered when it was made. ALSO, if there's a patent # on it - do a patent # search - google - you can find out EVERYTHING about it.

and yes, they make a wierd sound

here's the book i saw that horn in. the 1st time it shows up as an accessory is 1940 and the last 1954. you can use that as a guidline. if you don't have this book - get it, good ref. i got mine at memory lane in grand rapids, mi.
