me being a small town Iowa boy and know the career and stories of Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach Ed Thomas who was gunned down last year by former student Mark Becker.
his family last night received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on the ESPN Espys
The Thomas family was chosen to receive the award for their ability to forgive the family of Mark Becker, despite the fact their son Mark, murdered Ed Thomas.

thanks for posting that - very moving.

on a related note, I recall seeing a show on tv once about a lady that could only find relief from the grief of her son's murder, by visiting the man who shot him in prison every Sunday. I think she even ended up adopting the guy, but I'm not sure. The murderer was so overwhelmed at her compassion, you could see how changed he was.
