Was working on my skyhawk today and the fork was beyond saving so I dug thru all my parts bikes and finally found a fork that would work off of a ladies hawthorne balloon tire cruiser, the problem is the tube on the fork is thicker on the inside the tube so when you go to install the bars the neck will only go in about and inch and a half. Has anyone ran into this problem before?

sounds like something is obstructing the insertion of
the stem...if the stem length is too long it may bind up...
if the stem quill is short, there is something
stuck inside the fork steer tube...

i worked on a fork like that once. Your crown nut will have a hole in it that matches the stems smaller diameter I think I used a Diamondback BMX gooseneck to fix the one I was working on. they have a long neck on them and will go in pretty far the crown nut keeps it from moving around.

A bmx stem is pretty much going to be the 22.2 dia. I guess there are oddities still, "out there," but most are the 7/8"
I believe....(man have I been wrong) that stem would have a round wedge, that pulls up inside the quill to expand it.
Let me know if you need one as I have 2.

Threaded BMX stems, IME, tend to be 21.1mm at the quill, and 7/8"/22.2mm) at the clamp. Still can't say for certain that'd going to help the OP with this project. What did the stem off the Hawthorne look like?

I stand corrected!
Bmx quils are 21.1
