i had the spring outta the forks for these pics. was just curious what it would look like, but its not ridable like this so the spring will be goin' back in for the final build. got some cruiser bars comin, woodgrain nirve foam grips, brown leather bell springer seat and she picked a kick butt bright metallic green color from one of my color chip books from work. got a nice shaped chrome fender from an old columbia that im gonna bob and install. 24" wheel in front and 26" rear with shimano 3spd. should be pretty sweet. stay tuned...keep choppin'-Atomic

Looks rideable to me. :D You just have to plan for corners. I raised mine up to go fast, but like it low for just cruising. It is fun fun to so many people building customs for their wives.

Re: from rat to princess

Nice build in the works! Heres an idea. I lowered my springer to a pleasing look, and still easily rideable, with an automotive valvespring. I tacked washers to each end to keep it from floating off center.

got more pix of that?

Re: from rat to princess

Heres how it sits. This is an older pic by my daughters bike. When I was setting it up, I didn't want to alter the frame. Spring was to high, springless was to low. Valvespring was just right!!

Its worked well. Plus, since the coils are equal sized, you can cut 'em down to size. Also, I used a valvespring I had, which necessitated tacking on the washers. I think some SBC springs had a cup around the end, which may help center it.

Re: from rat to princess

i know exactly where you are. my parents live in beaver and my sis lives in new sewickley. we'll have to cruise sometime. any good cruise spots down by you?

Re: from rat to princess

Funny....I was gonna ask you the same thing. I ride rt 65 to and from work in New Brighton often, but the Crows run Valley (Or as I call it, "The Valley of the shadow of Death") is not exactly a fun stretch. Of course I make do wherever I can. I'd like to get together for a ride. I ride the aforementioned Schwinn often and it would be cool to ride with someone whos into it too! Heck, I wouldn't mind just headin out your way up Freedom rd one day. Cranberry is pretty big. You don't have to tell me what street, but what are you near to?

Re: from rat to princess

im right off of rochester rd actually. theres a new park by my house where we usually go cruisin. nice long stretch of road in there. i will hit you up next time we cruise. have you ever heard of bicycle heaven in bellevue? guy has his 2 garages and whole house full of old and new schwinn parts. i mean LITERALLY FULL!! he has another house that he lives in due the amount of bikes and parts in the old house. hes got over 200 krate bikes. its truly amazing!
