Front brake noob installation

I am considering installing a caliper hand brake, or I guess a "V" brake to a bike with only a coaster brake...what type of brake should be used? Would I have to drill mounting holes? There is a hole in the center of the fork where the fender is attached, can a brake be mounted there? I'll post pics later. Thanks in advance.

Up until the mid 70's or so, that's where all non-rod hand brakes mounted. They come in center pull and side pull, with different arm lengths. If it's a big tire bike, you'll probably need to use a long armed sidepull type, as used on bmx and old low end mountain bikes.

Didn't consider drums and discs, obviously they don't mount there. :mrgreen:

A drum brake is easy as no special mount is needed. A disc would be difficult as the fork needs a special mount. If you can weld, you can add it to an old fork. Or you can get an adapter from Choppersus. http://www.choppersus.com/store/product ... et-Billet/

I've got Sturmey Archer drum brakes, they're excellent, i'd definately recommend them.
