I wanted to stop for a minute and address an issue that has come up lately to help clarify any confusion.

I started this website nearly seven years ago not really knowing what to expect. I enjoyed the hobby and as a web designer it was a natural progression for me to try to get something going on the Internet to support the fun. Little did I know that it would evolve into what it has today. I'm truly grateful for all of the folks who participate and make this place great...it's not me that makes it cool...it's all of you!!!

As with most online communities, there are expenses involved in running them and keeping them alive and progressing. My goal all along has been to create a free site that would allow folks to share their creativity and to buy, sell and trade bikes and parts with other folks in the hobby. In order to keep things this way, I decided to run the Ebay banners that you see on the site to try to offset the cost. I chose Ebay because I could have control over the content of the banners and keep it bike focused. Ebay basically pays me a very small amount for each click that I receive on these banners or links and the amount is determined by several factors including sales that result from clicks, value of the sale, category on Ebay, etc. I don't make huge money off of this each month, but it is enough to help enable my wife to stay at home and take care of our children.

Another source of income has been the banner ad that you see up top that displays ads for site supporters. When a company decides they want to advertise on the site I offer them banner ad space as well as product reviews and promotion via our email newsletter as well as Facebook. The majority of advertisers I have had on the forum have traded me product for banner time so I really haven't made a killing doing this either.

Lastly I make some income off of the RRB products that sell on the site. Again, not huge money makers once you figure in all of the expenses and man hours that go into have products created and shipping everything out. I question why I keep doing the shirts each time I finish shipping a batch out, but the graphic designer in me loves knowing that people out there enjoy them and wear them with pride.

I say all of this to be up front with you all and to let you know that I am passionate about the hobby and want to see it grow and become even more popular, but at the same time, I'm not going to be ashamed of making money off of the hobby. I know that lately making money has been characterized as some kind of an evil agenda, but I feel that I've tried to do it in a respectful way that doesn't try to take advantage of anyone.

So, just wanted to make sure everyone knew where I stood on this and that I'm transparent about my intentions with the site.

Thanks again to everyone who participates and supports the community! :D

Hello Steve,

I have nothing but respect for the way you run the site, and how you've shared your beliefs with grace. That's one of the first things that attracted me to this site. I cannot imagine the time and effort it requires.May you continue in His blessings.

Steve, I only just liked the website when I first came here, then I saw your signature and I was immediately a fan and supporter.

Making money from something we love is certainly no crime, especially when it keeps a mom at home with her children.

I enjoy the website everyday.Keep up the good work and I don't feel there is anything wrong with making a few dollars of this site, especially with the work that goes into it. Thanks for the transparency.

I joined this site a year and four days ago, in a time that was pretty tough for me. RRB has helped me in many ways that I could never really explain. I look forward to visiting it everyday. Can I live without it? Sure, but I choose not to. Steve has never met me or had any contact with me, I'm just a goofy guy that loves old bikes. But when I needed a special prayer request he was there. Steve, I sincerly hope that you and your family can be proud of your hard work and success of this site !
thanks Tom. :D

This is the first time I have read this post and I hope you didn't feel you had to Discolose anything due to pressure you have received from anyone. I have not seen anyone complain of this site yet and I hope that never happens. No matter what your intention is with this site..bottom line is..it's your's and you let us play for FREE. If you make a million a year off it..GOOD FOR YOU. As far as the banners and ad's...those people advertising aren't doing it for the fun of it ..they do it so we see it and buy their product which they make money off. Thats they way the world works. Most of us get up in the mornig and work to make money..that money goes to take care of OUR WORLD..which includes family and HOBBIES like this.

So to Steve and anyone else that works on this site..thank you for all the fun. I have said it before and i will say it again..i'd pay money to have this site available. You guys do a great job..we have a great time..and it's all for free..so who can complain??? Sadly I have seen a few post's that have do so..shame on them. If you think about the amount of members on here..and what we spend on our silly kids hobby....thats a TON of money. $1 dollar a month from each memeber is nothing....think about that.

GREAT JOB STEVE..you are an inspiration to those with a passion

Not a problem to me, Steve! :D You seem like a GREAT guy  I really enjoy this site and am thankful for all you do! :D

Thanks Steve! Nothing wrong with a guy trying to make a decent living for his family. I think we are all trying to do the same thing while also supporting our hobbies! I love this site & the people involved in it. All the way from you, to the moderators, to the members! Thanks to all involved! 8)

I am completely lost on the concept that making money is BAD. Especially when you can do it as part of a hobby you enjoy. I just don't get it.

Steve, thank you once again for this great sandlot for all of us to play in. While I agree that it is the members that make the community, the community wouldn't exist if you hadn't dreamed up (and continued to mature) this super cool website!!!!

THANKS BUDDY!!!!!!!

Now go make some money so you can pay for that Big Dummy with FSDs.

As long as you don't get all hoity toity and change the sig to say "Rollin in the Dough" or something like that I don't think anyone can complain, Big Thanks for the clubhouse and hope your efforts pay off !!!
