ive notice a myiad of gambles bikes of the 39 to 42 era,i bought one from the original owner abotb5 years ago who at the time was 71,he bought the bike new from gambles to do his paper route,it was compleat and the only thing that was changed was hiis sister brush painted it colbolt blue, when i started to remove the paint i saw itwas originally blue and red with red stripes,it was paintedar as thfender moun in the shelby scheme,it had the train badge on it which was the hiawata olympic train that ran between mpls and st paul,i came with a aero chain guard but ithas the idential shape as an aero but does not have the 2 gruves in it,has peaked fenders with stright braces, the for is not a shockes but loof idential to on with the same strurts, had the biscuit head light, the frame looks shelby built,it has a full lengh tank with 3 gilss on each side,no holes for a horn, its not a shorter tank like safty bike,it camd wit a vertcal lobdell seat, millre kickstand, the rear carrier has fairle long sides on it,there is only one fender brace on the rear asthe top of the fender mounts to the rear carrier, the rear hub is a morrow with a date code 3rd quarter of 31=4 31had drop center wheels that were blue with white strips, bike is currently waiting to be put back together,i have never seen the exact same bike, hope you enjoyed the info,if there are pics of cetainparts of the bike let meknow,by the way the old fellow i got it from called it an arrow,AJ

Re: gambles airflow

I'm not going to lie....It was really hard to understand your sentence, but what it sounds like is you are describing is a Hiawatha Badged Shelby Airflow with a Banana or Peanut Tank. (same tank, different names). It's not the Airflow that everyone thinks of when they hear Airflow.

Re: gambles airflow

What is the single letter - single digit code at the lower left corner of the region of lettering on the rear hub? - Something like J2 or such.

I am picturing lower series, non wishbone, scythe bar style frame with zeppelin guard... most common frame in 40 - 41 era it seems...

Exactly as I pictured... does that mean I am a Shelby-Psychic?... or would that be Psycho?...

i have had this bike a number of years, the only other one ive ever seen is the partial that was on here and now on ebay, the bikes i have seen with that tank had horns, yes the old fellow i bought it from said he got it in 42,i had long ago date coded the hub but was looking for other complete bikes that were the same, thanks AJ

the original hiwatha colors were black, maroon, orange, grey, mpls is a hiawatha town, there are still some of the original passender cars here, they would mke kool lake cabins, the bike will be done in these colors, with Hiawatha in all his glory on both sides of the tank[painted on of course]i have a set of velocity ballooer rims bought a while back, large all white tires, nexus 3 speed coaster, did some pics but they arent real sharp as im not a camera person
