OK so what's the criteria for a rat bike?
I do city to sand cruisers, and a little in between, to the left, far left but rarely right!
Single speeds are tough, speeds are functional.
$$$$ is always an object, but does rat mean cheap?
Is paint really that bad? Or is it all about the patina?
Just some questions before I post and get flamed for being far to old to change!

So Keep on building your way! Share what it is YOU do here. And the only flaming your likely to encounter is an occasional flaming paint scheme. Later and PEACE!

+1 with Peatbog's response..
Just like a 'real' family there's all shapes, sizes, likes, dislikes, and flavors..but it's all good here. That's how we 'roll' on RRB. Appreciation and respect for all bikes, all builders and all riders.

P.S. BTW, I like your bike and FULLY understand your need for multiple gears. In my area of Georgia (metro Atlanta), it's just too hilly for me to enjoy a cruise on a single speed bike. Granted, there's the silver Comet Trail and it's ridden by all types of bikes and skill levels of riders, but it doesn't work for a nice slow 'cruise' (for me anyway).

I now only have one single speed bike, the Fatbelly Bobber (but that might change too). Other than that, I've got a 1 x 6 converted MTB, my wife runs a 7 speed Nexus, my daughter rolls on a 3 speed Nexus, and my plan for my next two are a 2 speed Sturmey Archer kickback and a 3 speed Sturmey Archer with a band brake setup.

I guess, all that's let to say is build the way you want it, then ride the tires off it!

Cheers,
Dr. T

I always think of rat rod bike building in the same frame of mind that the early hot rodders use to think of their cars. Made out of what ever is sitting around the shop. Keeping it cheap and one of a kind.
