My vote would be either way keep it there and functional. I'd still use a cable lock or a "U" lock to secure it to something solid but would be cool to keep with the original.
I agree...............
After having a close peek at my lock I wish I kept it on the bike. I don't know what I was thinking when I tore mine off the bike. It's still functional as a lock but the mount is gone.

I also wish I had a key for mine to show you. I'm going to look at my Swedish made folding bike lock but it may not have the same type key.
So.................this is what I came up with. Yours may or may not be like mine but it may help to get yours unlocked. If you use this idea to rip off someones bike you are a bad bad person and will pull some heavy bad karma.
My wife tells me this is what my brain would look like if my skull splits wide open...........
Dimensions ( A, B, C ) determine what the key blank would look like looking down the shaft, if it doesn't fit..............
Dimensions ( E and F ) are to the centers of the tumblers to the out side of the keyhole. The top teeth of the key may or may not be needed and may be connected as one long one.
What lies beyond dimension ( D ) is what goes through the second hole giving the key a foothold when you turn it.
The green arrows show the screw and the holes it goes through. Once you open this lock you should be able to unclip it from the bike to get a better look at it.
I have shown my lock in the open and locked positions. I would think that if you find a way to jimmy this open you can make a better key for it when you take it off the bike. If I'm not clear with this just ask and maybe we can can pick this lock.
