I bought a German Kalkhoff Ladies bike for $15 at a yard sale. It is a cool bike 5 speed, good condition. The problem is the lock is engaged and the previous owners lost the key. I have never dealt with this type of lock. It has a bar that extends out and locks the rear spokes. I could just cut it off the frame at the welds but I think it is cool. I am not sure if it takes a key or there is some magic trick you need to do. I have done some looking on the net and can't find anything helpful. Anybody out there ever have one of these or know about it?

I don't think the locksmith would do for you that you couldn't do yourself. He will laugh at you and be amused, they hate to fool with a cheap lock such as this. Your picture of it is not very clear. Those type lock's are only to keep the honest people honest. I just went through my pictures of a German made Hercules I have and it had something like it that I will look for, I took mine off by wiggling til it broke off and it might leave a couple of weld holes behind. As I remember the keys for such locks aren't too impressive to look at. You might take a close peek to see what it takes to jimmy it open, use a little oil. Maybe you then can make your own key.
Good luck :|

I found my lock and I may be able to help you. I took pictures and will make it possible to understand how to get it open without ruining the lock. You will make a key for it yourself. First problem is I gotta go right now and won't be back till late afternoon and that's the first chance I'll get to get a picture to you.

Graylock,
That would be great, having a photo of the key would be a big help. No rush, Thanks.
Outskirtcustoms,
Thanks as well. I agree that I would not leave the bike unattended with just that lock, I want to keep it, but have to wait to tune/ride until I figure this thing out.

My vote would be either way keep it there and functional. I'd still use a cable lock or a "U" lock to secure it to something solid but would be cool to keep with the original.

I agree...............
After having a close peek at my lock I wish I kept it on the bike. I don't know what I was thinking when I tore mine off the bike. It's still functional as a lock but the mount is gone. I also wish I had a key for mine to show you. I'm going to look at my Swedish made folding bike lock but it may not have the same type key.

So.................this is what I came up with. Yours may or may not be like mine but it may help to get yours unlocked. If you use this idea to rip off someones bike you are a bad bad person and will pull some heavy bad karma.

My wife tells me this is what my brain would look like if my skull splits wide open...........
Dimensions ( A, B, C ) determine what the key blank would look like looking down the shaft, if it doesn't fit..............
Dimensions ( E and F ) are to the centers of the tumblers to the out side of the keyhole. The top teeth of the key may or may not be needed and may be connected as one long one.
What lies beyond dimension ( D ) is what goes through the second hole giving the key a foothold when you turn it.
The green arrows show the screw and the holes it goes through. Once you open this lock you should be able to unclip it from the bike to get a better look at it.
I have shown my lock in the open and locked positions. I would think that if you find a way to jimmy this open you can make a better key for it when you take it off the bike. If I'm not clear with this just ask and maybe we can can pick this lock.

i had a unit like this on a bike I got from Japan, It is not so much a LOCK as it is a hill holder. In Japan the are many hills and it is hard to park a bike with out it rolling backwards, this helped the bike from rolling backwards. On my bike there was no key. I would suggest you soak in PB blaster and play with the rod and try to move it back. It looks like you push it into place and release it with your thumb good luck Tucker

Graylock,
thanks for all the effort you went thru to give me a hand with this. I was able to pop the lock using some small allen wrenches, now I am able to remove the mechanism from the bike without wrecking it. I will use your diemnsions to fab a key. Thanks much.

Greylock, that was a sweet lock, I'd try to fab a bracket and put that big handcuff back on, it adds to the character of the bike, without it it just looks like any other bike.

If you were refering to this bad boy it's still on the Swede bike and is functioning. The German made one I'll make a key and a bracket and slip it on one of my builds.
