I recently picked up a head badge for my 42 Hawthorne. It's the same design as I've seen on the ads for that year bike. But the two holes on the badge need to be almost a half inch wider to fit the head tube holes.
Are there larger badges? All I've seen look identical.

I also can't find any little screws for it. Does anyone know what size those are?

I have a 1947; its badge is kinda different than the one shown above and with blue paint; I have also seen red ones (boys) like this. Snyder-built 1947 (74EH) girl's bike.

I believe that in 1942, Snyder, Rollfast, (Hawthorne?), may have switched from their pre-war frames (straight downtube for men; double support bar for women) to the new 1942 styles.
Not sure if the badges are aluminum (looks like), or plated brass.

Had the same problem. Got some brass rivets online that were too large (#6). Ended-up re-ordering #2-56, #3-48, and #4-40 brass screws just to cover all bases/bikes. Actually, I may be using screws in former rivet holes.

Who made this Hawthorne.
Here is another picture of a Hawthorne with a brass badge like the one first pictured. I believe that this one is not a Snyder built, (with the bent seat tube).

So the right badge may have to go with the right bike maker, (as well as year).
The narrow holes may be CWC (brass), and the wide Snyder (aluminum)?

Sometimes too, in the artwork in advertisements, the artists might take some liberty in the accuracy of their drawings, or the seller could have contracted to two manufacturers in the same year?

Thanks Phil.

The chain guard on the blue bike is the same as was on my 47 CWC.
My 42 Hawthorne (24EH) is Snyder built and has the curved down tube. It's number 13xxx so maybe it was made early in the year, hard to say. I'll see if I can find an aluminum badge.

Maybe the holes are different, so that Snyder could use the same drilling jig or template as for the D.P. Harris Rollfast bikes, and vice versa.
Maybe for the salty island air, one might find a brass Rollfast head badge that could fit the Snyder bike?
