I purchased this bottom half of a long spring saddle from tulsacruiser. There in great shape, nice and straight, bathing in vinegar to loosen some of the rust on the bolts. In the 'For Sale' thread he stated that they are from an Elgin.
Anyone have an idea who the manufacturer is/was? Troxel, Mesinger, Persons, other?? These springs are HUGE. Does it look like there is a set of 'return' springs missing?? I have an NOS standard Troxel seat pan that I plan to bolt on top, it's 9 1/2" x 9" and looks tiny on there.
Any help would be appreciated.

You mention the springs are HUGE, is the steel wire that the springs were formed from have a very noticeably and much larger diameter than other spring seats? Looks like it is, if so that's a very early springer style from the early motorbikes and motorcycles. 1900-1920-ish.
