Hey guys...Im trying to find the same bike my dad had as a kid...He cant really remember what it was.

He thinks its either a suburban or a continental. He knows it had an all chrome fork, and i think he said it was baby blue. it had the 10 speed style bars.

Im assuming this is a continental right? but what year

That's not exactly a ratrod question, but some of these guys know an awful lot about bikes.

If you don't get an answer here, you might try http://www.bikeforums.net, look for the "classic & vintage" forum, and post it there.

Do you have any pictures that show it? That would help.

The chrome fork would be pretty distinctive, IF they just made one bike like that. If that was a pretty common item on Schwinn bikes, you won't find much help without more information.

You might also check the prices/quality on these, that might narrow it down. Had I had a 10-speed as a kid, it would have been the "cheap" model, whatever that was, and if your dad has a feel for whether they'd buy the cheapest or the best or something in between, that might narrow it down as well.

Sorry guys...i know its not a rat question, but im really trying to find one of these bikes, i know you guys know your stuff.

he said he bought his bike in 1973...but he says hes not sure, he was still in high school

Quick release hubs
chrome fork
leather seat...no padding
baby blue

Thats what he remembers

Funny you posted this thread, I just learned that my Dad had a Raleigh Sports like the one I just built. Life is weird sometimes.

I would have to say it was a sport model ... early 70s continental , varsity and sprints had painted forks , 2 of the road bikes
in my yellow fleet a 72 continental and a 74 sprint both have painted forks with the chrome trim so unless your dads bike had the fork
replaced...........

please define what a rat ? is or isn't? since we have had a prtoblem what is a rat bike in the buildoff and since this is really not a rat forum? just in name only? now i would like to know what a rat ? is? not trying to start something so don't take it that way. i am just a little confused what the site is about. if you read the flyer it talks about what a rat is and isn't. so i just would like to know. thank you

You shouldn't be apologizing. I don't remember seeing any rule that said all question have to be "rat rod" related.

it was a question about a bike and i'd say that's completely appropriate regardless of the title of the site.

oh this book its for '74 models
