I’m putting bikes away for the winter, using my $50 hardware store electric hoist. That’s 15 years ago price. It’s going to be 20F next few days.
The upright supports are salvaged from our old cabin roof beams. The old cabin was cut around the base with an old chainsaw, winched and collapsed off the foundation into a heap and I burned it during the winter when the neighbors were gone to Florida. I laminated the beam that slides out the salvaged man door from the old busted cabin scrap.
Thrift store roller blades were used as sliding bearing donators.
I use a safety line so I don’t fall out the door and a trap door over the stairs.
Here are the upright support beams from our old cabin ceiling. Their on the left.
Four cross supports, two on the top and two on the bottom. Here are the front two, another set is back farther to keep the beam from teeter tottering into the roof. Scraps of 2 x 4 are used to keep the sliding beam from falling over. I used barn screws.
Here it is extended out the door. I’ll slide it back inside and close the door when all the bikes are stored. It looks bad but has worked many, many times over the last 15 years.
