Here's how I build a zeat post. I use 3/4" solid mild steel round stock. I cut the three peices needed to get the desired distances. I like the two verticals at about 3-1/2" center to center.On this one i'll have the horizontal piece at a bit of an angle with the 2 verts. parallel. the one on the left is finished.
I do this by cutting the angles a bit less than 45 degrees. see the little gap?
I then bevel the edges to be welded and zap her together. I put about a 3/16" bevel and weld multiple passes. I'll try to get some more pics of that.
