I stumped here guys. How does one go about replacing the parts of block style pedal? I have a pair I want to save. Everything is bent except the rubber blocks and the outer pieces. I can't seem to figure out how to dissemble these kind of pedals. Is there a dust cap you pry or unscrew?

Are they walds? That one looks pretty wasted, I think you could pick up a nos set or at least a nice used set for only a few bucks. I think on this style pedal there is a rod that passes through the blocks and should have a cup shaped rivet on the inner side.

They weren't built w/disassembly in mind, if bent you were expected to toss them. Might as well try to pry, you've nothing to lose if they're already trashed.

You could cut the rivet ends w/a grinder, and use bolts from a same length pedal, most of the better ones unbolt. And it's a whole lot easier to clean pedal blocks when they're apart! ~Adam

Thanks, I've figured out how to take the blocks off, as you can see in the pic. These are Torringtons from the 30's. How do I get to the internal bearings is the question. It's possible with newer style pedals, just popping off the dust cap.
All I want is the diamond shaped metal end pieces and the blocks.

While the end caps on some similar style pedals come off when you remove the block screws, almost all of them have the outer end bearing retainer peaned on like a rivet or european sword hilt. It may not be completely impossible to do something with them, but there is no "correct" procedure.

Those don't look at all like Torrington pedals. They look like Union Schwinn pedals from the 60's or early 70's. If you remove the two nuts from the block rods on Torrington pedals the end caps will come off with the rods/blocks exposing the adjustable cone on the end of the shaft. Removing the nut will enable you to completely disassemble the pedals. Gary

I've seen a boat load of block pedal guts, but threaded ones are not very common. As stated, if they were that type, you'd have it apart already.

OK, wasn't that hard. Just requires ruining a knife and crawling around for the loose bearings once they fall on the floor.

The end/dust cap has a little logo on it that looks like packman, or like a c, guess they are not Torringtons.
