I have some black rims I'm trying to strip the edges so they're silver. It seems like I've been sanding forever, still a lot of black left. What should I be doing? Thanks, Dave.

It really is tough! It will build up the muscles in your arms though. The only other way is to sandblast or burn off, neither of which will work for your application. Just keep sanding bro!

The powder coat is actually a good foundation for your paint. Sand it with some 400 or 600 then paint over it.

The question is though, is Twister going to be using any rim brakes for this build? I personally can't find a paint that withstands rim brakes for long aside from either the raw alloy or the powdercoat itself.

Having said that, i'm trying an Epoxy-based appliance paint on some rims if the weather ever warms up, so maybe i'll get lucky this time...

I'm afraid that if you using rim brakes they WILL get messed up. The alternative would be to go with a disc brake system.

I was able to get the rim stripped after much sanding. I have black rims, with rim brakes, and didn't like the way the rims started looking.
