hub grease

I've got to repack the Shimano coaster brake hub on one of my bikes. Do I use anything special, or would the automotive wheel bearing grease I have work fine?

I use either Hi-temp wheel bearing grease, all purpose black grease, or white lithium. It just depends on which can I find first when I start looking. :roll:

I have seen some old hub breakdowns that recommend petroleum jelly.

wheel bearing grease is what i use. ive used it on most all of my bikes...

I repacked an old Shimano cb hub with automotive wheel bearing grease- the brown stuff, and I was not happy with the braking compared to my Bendix RB2. So I bought the high temp automotive wheel bearing grease, which is thinner - the blue stuff, and the brakes work better now.

I use a good moly grease, but I've used white lithium with the same results. People have tried to tell me that these greases will gum up and get stiff and sticky. But I used it in most hubs I've serviced or rebuilt, and some of them are still great 5 yrs later.
