Rebuilt my rear hub today. Seemed to go smooth but have a little bit of noise when I stop peddling and am just letting the wheel coast. It will go away if I back pedal a little but not to the point it activated the coaster brake.

Also,How much should the pedals move backwards before the brake activates? An inche? 2 inches?

Thanks for any help.

sound like you may need to loosen up the coaster brake arm side a little bit. as far as the distance to engage the brake ... i think it depends on the hub, 2 inches sounds like a really short distance to me though, as long as i can lock the rear up in less then half a crank rotation im happy.

just guessing though, hard to tell when you cant "see" what its doing.

Mine says Falcon on the brake so I assume that is what it is.
Trying to rebuild it again. Noticed some wear on a few of the parts and replaced one of the bearings with a set from another wheel. Will get it all greased up tomorrow to see if that works.
Was not sure if I had the right grease (Quaker State bearing grease) or if I used enough.
Can to much grease be used?

Rebuilt with lots of grease, still having noise.
Went to LBS to ask them and mechanic said I may have to tighten cone up some more to get the spring to press correctly. Said the sprocket should have a slight jitter to it when spinning the wheel by hand. I had it originally just hand tight which gave me a good fit without any slop. Tightened it ever so little and saw the sprocket do what mechanic said but still the noise persists.
wondering if I have to go the opposite way???
Thanks outskirtcustoms and CCR for your input. Any more ideas out there?

There may be nothing wrong. Asian hubs with the spring that goes around the axle and presses against the little piece of sheet metal in the drive often make a buzzing sound at the halfway point, due to the design and construction. Usually it lessens over time. :| I'd keep the bearings just tight enough to eliminate noticeable end play ("slop").

If it's a buzzing sound, sanding the expander knurling and inside of the hub may quiet it down. Usually these hubs quiet down after a while with use. It won't hurt anything, it's just annoying. If it's a rattle noise then something is too tight or the bearing races or hub shell have some pitting. and will need replaced.
