While chatting it up at a local machine shop i mentioned the mag wheels just around the building, turns out they were part of his wood cart (aluminum moto mags)!!! He thought he might have other wheels out back so we took a walk to the row of old dirt track race cars, scrap metal and a vintage Huffman 26" bike. I asked if he would sell it and he agreed to take offers. $ changed hands and it was in the truck!

Someone did a shade tree fender bob in the back and trimmed the front fender but otherwise its in decent shape. Rear Allstate tire has some cracks but holds air, chainring has reall good chrome as well as the hubs (New Departur Model D (rear) and M(front)), truss rods missing but the fork is actually straight, amazing. If i had to guess it was stored indoors until the not too distant past.

***now into the shed with you till Monson 2010!**

We got talking about old bikes etc. and he mentions a collector just up the road with a barn full of old Schwinns :!: . Guess i'll be paying him a visit in the not too distant future.

Photos tomorrow.....

great bike!!! i like those old huffies and you scored a cool one. looks to be early to mid 50's. the ser# will help you. it should be a letter followed by like 6 numbers (maybe5). the first number after the letter is the last number in its year. your look to be 50's, and if that number was "5", it'd make it a 55'. that works with 60's and on, so hopefully it'll work.

Turns out the old man up the road has a pretty decent junk yard. cant beleive i didn't know about this place, usually my junk yard senses start tingling within a certain radius..anyway. I picked up some parts i needed for my truck and asked about his schwinns. Sounds like i might have an iterested party in the Caliente and maybe the 1949 ladies bike too. Looking forward to seeing what he has stashed away. All i saw right off were some dept store scrap iron and a couple of varsity looking things, correction, all i saw was scrap iron 8) .

The motomags will remain on the wood cart i believe. i would imagine the hubs are shot as he removed the axle and bearings and just shot a piece of bar stock through them.

I really like the Byke, considering the years when i though "huffy's are junk" that says alot! Not sure what i'm going to do with it at this point.

Hoping to meed junk yard guy with my 2 Schwinns, hopefully he will buy them.

Cool Chainguard how it goes down both sides. Should clean up well.
