I was messing around a little bit a couple of days ago and decided to pull the seat post out of my Windstyler, as I was curious if it was original or had been changed......I was litterally thankful that I was able to purchase and save this bike from who knows what else could have been done, I've seen things rigged before but....

Back in the late 80's early 90's friends and i where bending a crap load of layback seat posts (bad landings on really big dirt jumps) some of the damage being from throwing the bike clear when coming up short of the landing but usually from slipping off the pedals and coming down hard on the seat.

this was before they started bracing the layback post.
It became common practice for us to drive a piece of hot re-bar into the post for extra strength.
That mod is worth it's weight in gold to a bunch of kids with not much money and a mean passion for bmxing.

...Yep, I remember doing the same thing back in the day...my friends dad would tack-weld it in after we slid the re-bar in about 4 to 5 inches so that in an unanticipated crash landing, the post would not bend. We were big kids who should be riding 24"- 26" BMX cruisers...instead we chose to put our seat post up as high as possible on our 20" BMX  we were poor....yep good times 8)
