So,i'm a 13 year old boy living in Ohio, and I have this Schwinn... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... =3&theater

The paint on it is very scratched and dinged up, and needs redone. So my idea is, that I get all new chrome parts for it, such as handlebars, sprocket, etc. And repaint it with a gold automotive paint. I'd be keeping the springer fork of course, and I figured i'd get on ebay or somewhere and find a gold stingray seat for it. I'll call it... THE GOLD KRATE! Haha seen as how its winter and there's nothing new going on,I need something to work on. So what do you all think? Good idea? Any other suggestions? I'd love to hear any ideas on how to make it better :D

Can't go wrong with gold... I am sure you can find a gold metal flake seat. I have a gold chain two of my bikes. I am sure can get gold metal flake grip too

sorry no dis here, i just had to.. :p

hey man, im working on two stingrays myself right now aswell.. im 17 but gettin parts money ect its hard specially with low money..

sure replace the parts, or you could use them to build a cool Rat if you get another frame larger or something thats unique that would make a cool Muscle bike, but also whatever you do, you will want to keep that fender 'that is if you want fenders, if not sell up here i know alot of people here want stingray fenders, thats because they are wider then the newer repo ones.. just an FYI if you wanna run fenders on your Ray you will want to hold on to the OG one :)

i have this blue one im going to either go respray it Coppertone, or Orange Metalflake, probably just Chevy Orange..
but its gonna be Motorized to get to school quicker 8)

old image, i have it all torn down to the frame now.. the fork is bend at the tip of the headtube :/
its not too big of a deal since i was just gonna put a springer on it at first, but now that im in shop class i think ill just build an old motorcycle style springer fork for it when i get good at welding :)

ps; you have more then one bike? if so do your parents ever get on you about having uh.. 'too Many bikes?

its why i don't have purple low rider anymore :/

That's not the original fender actually,I believe I got that off of an old Murray. Those two stingrays of yours look like they'd make good project bikes! And yeah,I have about 25 bikes and they always get on me about them

If money is in short supply, don't buy fresh chrome until you have soaked the parts you already have in oxalic acid for a few hours...... it's amazing what it can rescue, especially vintage parts as they were chromed much better than the stuff you get new now.

If you want to try the oxalic acid, don't let anyone sell you any "wood rejuvenator" stuff, that's just oxalic acid that has already been diluted to less than 10% strength, get rust and stain remover instead, the 100% white powder stuff, and dilute it yourself, much cheaper.

This is the one I get in Australia

I'm sure there will be a similar american product.

haha yeah maan... i lost count somewhere after 15? haha
i probably have 16 frames? bmx,mtb,crusier.. haha i gotta sell some for project funding..

but hey even if its not OG hardware alot of times the old 20in fenders were Fatter then the new ones modeled more for the 'lowrider' junk..

and thanks Oz Broz for the useful info i been thinkin about Oxalic acid for some time now, been low funded but i may get a cycle shop job around the summer time..

ps' this last week i tore up the vynil nanner seat on the five speed and its ugly, i mean one spot the top pan is completely rusted though! i donno if its saveable or worth it..
maybe just scrap it :/ it would need some welding and alot of bondo to get right, aslo its tweaked and dented :/

the one on the blue ray isnt in such bad shape, then also its not a sting seat either 'single pan' ima redo that one forsure :p

As for the chrome, this bike has already been cleaned up/partially restored. I did it last summer, but now i'm looking to mess with it a little. The sissy cleaned up kinda crappy and I powder-coated the handlebars
