I needed to do a couple of site visits on Lake Winnipesaukee this week over on Rattlesnake Island. Its about a mile and a quarter from the main land. The weather was as clear as the ice it seemed that taking a bike out there would be fun. So last night i mouted up a pair of studded tires on the Schwinn Rolling Rock and then found the rear hub needed attention, and the bottom bracket. 1/2 an hour later i was good to go and loaded up the bike.
Set out this morning at about 8:30. It was cold but luckily there wasn't much wind. I think in total we rode about 6.5 - 7 miles. The ice seemed to be 8" - 12" thick.
Here is a big build up of ice on the breakwater that protects the island access road. Those are other breakwater's in the background covered in 3-4feet of ice.
Looking to the North East up the lake towards the Ossipee Range. Too bad Mt.Washington wasn't visible. That's the North tip of Rattlesnake Island on the right.
I needed a strong cup of coffee by the time we got back. 8)
