Thanks to Udallcustombikes, and 65rat, I ended up with this one, Its an Indian Scout which I think is a Phillips brand and not Raleigh. Udallcustombikes thinks its a 53 model, I have no idea if its that old or not since finding info for these hasnt been easy so far. The rear hub Is a S/A dated 1971 but Im pretty sure its not original to the bike.

If anybody has more info about this bike, please let me know.

At any rate I plan on either doing a restoration, or if I cant find any more info I will build it into a Faux Boardtracker. When finished this bike will be placed on the showroom floor of the local Indian Motorcycle dealership for display.

On to the pics....

I am glad you ended up with it. I had a Princess a couple years ago that I did a bit of research on. I think they were only made from '50-54 :?: I will root around and try to find my notes. The Princess was '51.

Cool bike Gold Street Customs.

I have no reason to say that it isnt a 53, but no definitive answer to really tell me the age. Really not that important, mostly just curious.

Im kinda leaning towards the boardtrack style, as its missing some of the original parts, like brakes, fenders, wheels, etc. And since I have a hard time just getting bikes, trying to locate original parts is gonna be next to impossible.

From the little bit of searching I have done so far, if it is a 53 it would mean that its a pre Raleigh Phillips. I think I read somewhere that Phillips was bought out by Raleigh in 1960?

I also saw a pic of one with the Phillips script on the chain wheel, but this one dont have it. maybe that was for a more luxury model?

All in all it seems kinda strange to me that the Indian motorcycle brand would sell an english bike badged as an Indian??? Maybe it had nothing to do with Indian motorcycles at all? I mean in the 50's there were PLENTY of choices.... why a Phillips?

Pulled this from bikeforums.net

To be correct they were re-badged Phillips. They were built before the B.C.C. took over Raleigh. The Indian Motorcycle Company sold Indian bicycles through out it history. They were all contracted from bicycle companies---American,German,and English, depending on the year. The best of the English bikes were the early 50s ones with the full head dress Indian decal on the chain guard.Interesting point in motorcycle history is the BCC(phillips) ended up owning the Indian Motorcycle company. So to answer you question about worth --yes they do bring a good price because of the MC connection.---Also it could have been built under raleigh leadership as they would have had access to the name after 1960.If so it's worth a little more than a standard raleigh model but not as much as a 50s bicycle.---sam
