So i went over to the Schwinn site, which I really don't check out very much anymore, but you never know. So I go to the forum pages and they now have a new forum for Rules etc. Of course it's posted as the first forum in order to catch everyone up with the latest and greatest. No big deal and I am not trying to kill a dead horse here, but I go into the classified forum and find an interesting topic about a Sears Chopper that a guy wrote as to why his post, from a looooooooong time ago, which was brought back to the top because someone did a search of the forum and had a question for the guy about the bike. The guy askd the mods what happened to the post? Why was it deleted? Someone had told him there was a inquiry about his bike and now he has no way of responding. It got me thinking, when you do a Google or other search for lets say some obscure off brand bike and it returns a post that someone made a long time ago when the Schwinn board allowed these types of posts and the current mods delete it aren't they really killing a bit of reference and history as it pertains to ownership, pictures and/or networking possibilities about certain bikes and parts? The simple answer is YES, of course they are! Is this a good thing for any of us bike enthusuiasts? Again the answer is simple, NO it is not. How can we prevent this history from disappearing??? The rules say to make "searches of the archives for information before making a post" If a NEWB follows the rules and through no fault of his own brings back to life and "off Brand " topic and his first post if deleted how does that make him feel? The almighty Pacific or it band of dictatorial mods are really cutting off there nose to spite there face, simultaneously killing new people to the hobby and destroying there own archives.
