ok today when i was out riding ym free spirit i had a first time encounter that never happened to me before. i was riding down my street getting ready to turn into my driveway and when i did i hit a major pothole at which time i heard a loud high pitched grinding noise like when you have bad brakes on a car then i couldn't pedal it was like it was stuck between gears
so at this point i stopped and noticed the pin that goes inside the wheel had fallen out and the end piece that pushes o the pin had fallen off and came off the cable.
i have been adjusting this part here and there to get all 3 gears working and they seemed like they were.
upon inspection i did not notice anything broken but the wheel does not seem to want to pedal just spins like its in a neural place.
the question i have is does anyone know how i could get these gears working again? i don't have much experience in working on 3 speed internal hubs and this one is a coaster brake hub so it has the brakes to mess with too.
i just spent 60 bucks on getting these wheels trued and enw tires installed and i really enjoy riding this bike but if the rear wheel is shot then i am going to part it out.
would a major bump cause something like this or was it over/undradjusted and this just made it fall apart?
thanks for any info i will take a pic of the hub tomorrow and show you guy what i am talking about

Sounds to me like you busted an axle. They usually break just inside the bearing adjustment cones where you can't see it. Grab your wheel and try to move it back and forth. If there is a lot of play, the axle is most likely busted...If not, it's something else internal and will require a tear down to inspect for something else. skpc

actually i got it fixed it was a busted axle i rebuilt the hub and it's running good now seems to be going thru all the gears fine and stopping fine i also replaced the bearings from a donor wheel since the ones in this wheel were shot it broke dead in the center when i shook the wheel the entire wheel shook side to side so when i loosened the nuts for the wheel the whole axle fell out in 2 pieces but i fixed it now

Excellent! It's great to hear your success story on the hub....
thanks i am just glad it wasn't the gears themselves i have replaced axles several times it's the internal gears that get me and i usually end up trashing the hub trying to rebuild it here i am going on 2 days ( i think to be honest ) and still running better then ever that bkes tough ive hit a deer with it once ( no kidding a deer just my luck ) broke the axle hit a parked trike from forgetting it had coaster brakes ( yup im that spacey sometimes) and it has suffered a couple blowouts and a fender being wedged into the wheel but she is all fixed and riding great now shes kinda one of my favorite rides this is from the deer encounter but shes fixed now just did wicked tail whip and went over the handlebars but as you can see it was an easy fix shes a tough ol girl lol let's hope this axle issue is the last problem
