Or does it seem like prices for parts on RRB are climbing. Lately I've been making "offers" to sellers that won't list a price and every one counter offers with more money. I watch Ebay, The Cabe & RRB closely for CWC parts so I have a very good idea what they are selling for on all three locations. I allow for condition in my evaluation of each part and offer what I consider a "reasonable offer" which is not a "great deal" for me or the seller (I know what great deals are). I realize that times are tough and being unemployed they are definitely getting tougher all the time. I just think it's a little sad when I can buy parts cheaper on Ebay. I hope better times are coming.

That's funny, just this morning I was thinking about how I had created a forum for people who are cheap....ha ha!

And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

As time progresses, this forum gets more members (a larger market)... which may help explain price increases. More people = more interests for bike parts. If a seller knows that more than one person may be interested in his product, slapping a higher price may be beneficial to eliminate the competition than if that product had a lower price with a dozen people interested.

Numbers go on forever and there is always only that one person who would be willing to pay the highest price. With more people on here, the seller has a greater chance of selling it higher than what other people would call "expensive".

With forum members increasing, however, not only are there more buyers but there are more sellers... more competition to lower prices. So it could go either way. It depends on how you're looking at it.

But in my opinion, a seller's asking price shouldn't be discouraging. If the price is not appealing to you, move on and look somewhere else, it's not a big deal. Who knows? Maybe the asking price is something another person will pay... just that person not being you.

Real Example:
Me: Dad, I don't know what I'm going to do with this crappy old bent up frame!
Dad: Put her on the CL and see what ya gonna get for it, boy!
Me: You're kidding! Nobody isn't going to want this bent up mess!
Dad: Maybe somebody... just try it.

1 day later... SOLD!!! 5 bucks!

Errr... I'm typing too much again. Sorry!

Some postings I see here seem like pretty high expectations  , in fact unreasonable once you factor in shipping. At the same time, others are clearly bargains, with a lot of OK if that's something specific that you want in between. Got to face the fact that the value of the dollar ain't doing so good right now. :(

One just simply cannot factor in shipping when assessing a seller's price. It's not the sellers fault the buyer lives in WA while the seller is in MD (about $70 shipping for an entire bike). I would not lower my price just because of that. Nor would I expect you to. If we haggle a price out that includes shipping that's another matter.

just saying.

prices on here are still cheap in my opinion. yea maybe ebay has cheaper prices on some things but you also have to consider hunting it down, bidding, and hoping you dont get bit by someone bidding 50 cents more at the last min. and honestly a part, or bike is only worth what someone will pay for it so if you get someone who you feel wants too much for something just say "i will pass." and a lot of times after a week or so the person will come back and take your offer. as i always say these old bikes are not getting any easier to find that is for sure.

My statement is mainly concerned with initial over-pricing. If someone is mulling over a purchase, they are going to view shipping as part of the cost. If the seller is already asking too high a price, that sale probably isn't going to happen. Overall, it seems to me that most of the time people here offer fair deals, heck, sometimes they're giving it away.
