Yes that's a 1953. A 43 would have a different dropout and chain wheel.
This is from an old thread here. It shows a mount on the chain stays. A whole bunch of good looking Huffys. I think all Huffmans came with a fender mount back then.

@Wildcat Just noticed but would I be correct in assuming my Huffman has the wrong crank in it? And would mine have come with one like shown here? I only ask because I have that crank in a bike I'm probably parting out and would like to make my Huffman a little more original if that is the case.

What year is your bike? Huffmans (Huffys) came with a couple of different chain wheel designs.

Here's a 56 Huffy from a thread here:

They thought it was a 46, but the decade is determined by the features.

So it probably is the correct chain wheel. It probably didn't come with a chain guard, so the aftermarket chain guard is the only thing added to your bike.

I was told it's a 1937 Huffman Mainliner when I got it. Head badge says "Mainliner" I assume it's closer to 1947. I'll get the serial number to be sure

I found a 55 Mainliner on the Cabe: Same chain ring and forks as yours.

This series of Huffys are pretty strange! They came out postwar, and production continued all the way through 1958! The girl's version has the huge head tube, which makes it look like a '30s bike! They've caused plenty of confusion in the bike world. Schwinn was the only company to move away from rear facing dropouts after WWII, aside from a couple lightweight models. Westfield/Columbia and Snyder/Rollfast phased them out in the early '50s, using up leftovers for lower end models. CWC/AMF continued through '54, Murray into '55. Skip tooth chain went the same way. -Adam

Scored a seat for the Raleigh

A little pricey, but cheaper than eBay.

Are those little metal bag holder inserts hard to come by? (Left side ‘bag slot’)

The leather is very dry and hard. I Am going to try to soften with a number of leather conditioners.

(She also got me a heavy, metal Benedictine Rosary From the Vatican, but it’s not really site related! :wink1:)

These just fell into my lap.

I guess I’m in a Raleigh phase.

I paid more than I wanted for the bikes, but if I was trying to buy this stuff in parts on eBay, I paid a fraction on that.

More pics of the bikes this weekend

The black one is a sprite I think?
