This pile of junk is next to the company I work at. It is a scrap processing plant.

I don't know if it is worth rescuing... and I also don't think they will let stuff out once it is in their possession.

Offer 10% over scrap and see what happens. They're in the business of making money...

Thr frame is toast, but there are some good parts left it looks like... hub, crank, headbadge, etc...

Looks too messed up to rebuild but might have a few parts on the front end to keep. Also maybe cut up for a piece of lawn or wall art.

I am going to stop and see if I can get the bike in the next couple days. I think it is "safe" for now. What can you guys tell me about this bike? I am not an expert at all, but the headbadge tells me it is not the normal Schwinn.

Whoa, your camera must have nice zoom then. It's a shame that bike got smashed. Scrapyards for you...
We bought a new Canon PowerShot SX20 IS last summer. Love it. Makes an amateur like me take good pics. 20X optical and 80X digital zoom.

Looks like an early 50's D97X, or "DX" for short. Flat top rims painted to match the frame. First ones I've seen like that. Usually they painted the flat tops white or cream. Lots of good parts on that wreck if you can only get to it. If I were the scrapyard owner, I'd worry more about you climing up the pile to get it than about selling the bike itself. Liability insurance stuff. Hope you can get it. Any guard dogs in the scrapyard at night? Make a midnight run! 8) Gary
