If I where to build a boardtracker...this would be it. I want to know, Is it really as hard to do as it looks? Custom frame, Motorcycle engine? What elsed I need to know?

I'm all for it, and headed in that direction myself, although I think there are varying degrees of success. Some motorized board-trackers look good from far, like that orange Flying Merkel tribute on Ebay a couple of months ago. It looked good in those tiny pictures, but when you looked at the details it was just a disaster from a design and execution standpoint. I'm sure you've perused the myriad of Youtube vids which detail some pretty amazing builds, many which took months or even a couple years and some pretty intense machining ability, these are the ones that look "right" to me.

Some resources...
AWESOME step-by-step, this one, although thorough, is as simple as it gets:

And then there's this labor of love, truly amazing:

If you're using Harley Davidsons as reference you NEED to go to your library and check out 'Classic Harley-Davidson, 1903-1941' if for nothing more than the classic color schemes, some really staggering color combos in that book, actually changed my perspective about how bike colors should work together.

Personally, I'm waiting for that 250cc V-twin that's been in the works for a while to become commercially available.

I don't think I'm quite at the time of my life experiance/income wise to take on a project with an actual motorcycle engine. Maybe a replica in bicycle form? Have you seen any without motors that still look good?

Dont write off a motorcycle engine, you could probably pick up a used single cylinder enduro for cheap and sell off what you dont need to fund your project. Plus you get a transmission and all the electronics to be street legal. I own two Yamaha TW200's. One is a 2001 and in awesome shape, the other is an 89 project that I only have a few hundred bucks into. It's awful tempting to make boardtrack / street tracker frame for the 89 just to have something different.

I look at these bicycle motor kits and there is just no way in my area that one of those will work, too many hills!

i wasn't thinking board tracker at the time, but i have some schwinn spoiler forks that i cut down that sit about like that. i cut 8" out of each piece. they don't pop up on ebay as often anymore but it might be worth considering if you luck onto a pair.
