I just finished the dry run build stage on this amf aerobee. Lots of problems with it but I think it looks okay. Now I just have to decide on a color. I was thinking apple green or plum crazy purple or light electric blue. All colors would have a candy color to them. I welcome any advice. I know this bike isn't completely original but its what I had and all parts are either amf or huffy except the wheels.

I would go with multiple candy colors faded into one paint scheme and add some cool pinstripes for a detail finish. Slick rear tire and skinny front to give it the big and little tire treatment.. Add tall boxed schwinn krate bars and I personally would use a low sissy bar with the silver nanner seat you have.. I can go on and on with your project.. Kool frame by the way and good luck with your build..

Thanks for the feedback. I really want to go with just one solid color on this bike though. I think if I went with fade paint it would look too busy once I put the reproduction aerobee stickers back on the frame and chainguard and fork. There is the forktube headbadge sticker, two stickers on the seatpost tube of the frame and a sticker on the down tube of the frame, many of which are large stickers and also the two stickers on either side of the fork sides that are the fork dart stickers (the fork dart stickers on aerobee's are long). I really wanted to go mostly stock or at least look stock on this bike. AMF did have a nice plum crazy purple as a color on bikes with this frame just not on aerobee's with this frame since all aerobee's that used this long frame were five speed bikes and were all painted black with chrome fenders and the chainguard was the same as the one I have only it was chrome as well. I just wanted to build this up and paint it to look like a long frame aerobee with painted fenders and in an amf color. That's why I am trying to deceide on either apple green, plum crazy purple or light electric blue. All three of those colors are stock amf colors found on boys muscle bike frames. I have amf chainguards of the green and blue colors in original factory paint and in the past have had an entire amf banana bike in plum crazy purple. That's the reason I'm deceiding between the green, blue, and purple for the color. Thanks.

Plum crazy from those options!

Luke.

Thanks for your input. I'll try and make this easier. I'll narrow the color options for this bike down to just two.

Color choices are now plum crazy purple and green apple green.

Really unsure what to do with this bike. I got it this far but now what? I am gratefull for all the responces everyone has left. I just can't help wondering if someone in such a bad financial spot as I am in should be spending money I don't have on painting this bike. I may end up just selling it. I posted in on craigslist for $150. Guess I'll see what happens. I am sorry if I wasted anyones time.

I deceided that if the bike hasn't sold by the time I wake up on this coming Monday January 5th that I will just keep it. Ido need the money but for me it's getting near impossible to find any boys banana seat muscle bikes that are neat and I want to build and ride in my area. It seems where I live everyone has far more money than I do and so everyone else is getting the bikes I wish I could own. I've been wanting a murray eliminator mark 2 for over 15 years now. I realize now that it will never happen. A not nice person from has the money to buy them all and always throws it in my face every year and the rest go straight to ebay and rich people pay hundreds if not thousands to buy them. This aerobee isn't the bike I want but it may be all I get to have. I may be forced to redo it or just have nothing. I like banana bikes too much to have nothing to ride. Hope I'm making the right decision. It's hard to settle when you want something specific and have for years but your finances just won't allow it. I'm sure you all understand and have been there yourselves.

Just unpainted, its a neat bike for your collection.
I feel many of the folks here have the collections they do, because so many projects are involved with each..its just easier to go between them when the parts are privy.

Imagine the nostalgia and comforts of the folks who get to see it, and see someone riding it like it was fresh out of the barn.. I get a high riding my Westfield around town, and boy do people notice here.
If you like it, its worth keeping, especially if like you said, its hard to get your hands on those older muscle boys frames. Even unmatched parts make that a pretty killer bike, and Id personally hold it until I could paint it CandyApple Green.

Im kind of on the low side of budget and funds myself, but if you keep what you like, and appreciate how it is now for a while, its gonna really drive you wild seeing it painted when the financial aspects are right.

At one time, I felt this was a Rich Mans Game, but with a little kindness and some looking about.. you can do alright with the bare essentials..After all, thats the idea for Rats, making something awesome out of what IS available..even if its not 20/20, know what I mean?

A Murray Eliminator will take time, I just scored my first sweetheart from a Local member here,..though I was fortunate in that.
It may come a piece at a time, but with patience and the advice and helping hands of the good folks here, I couldnt expect it to lack enjoyment, to say the least.
Its worth the wait!

2cent advice added. :p

Ya, its kinda like the old saying, "An artist can create a sculpture by addition or by subtraction. A sculptor was once asked how he could transform a solid block of marble into the life-size figure of a horse. He said, I simply chip away everything that doesn't look like a horse."

Thanks. Guess I was kinda frustrated and didn't think about all that. Your right. I shouldn't worry about what I don't have. The aerobee is a neat bike and your also right in that I can clean the bearings, regrease them, add a chain and ride this bike. I think I will do exactly that when the weather turns warm and spring comes. As for the eliminator I do have the chrome cover for the springer fork and the bolts for the springer fork so in a way I have a part of it. Thanks for helping me to see how fortunate I am.
