I would like the opinions of my fellow ratters on Komet Super coaster brake hubs. I was cleaning out the garage today and organizing my goodies for the Midwest Bike Swap. I found that I have several wheel sets with these Komet Super hubs. But I haven't ever had any mounted on my bikes.

I decided to tear one down just because I wanted to see how she ticked. Everything looked good and the chrome cleaned up just like new. I am wondering how well they work and if you would use them on one of your builds.

i had a single on one of my bikes. it had brass/bronze brake shoes. they seem to last for ever, much superior to a shimano. they have a retaining ring round the shoes to stop them moving. having said that i bought a couple of hubs for £1 and £2 each. so good value

I've had an issue with the one I have. Hard to pedal and made a popping noise. Decided to give it a second look and it turns out the axle bearings were way too tight.

Finally figured out the bearing adjustment, that square on the right side of the axle is there for a reason! Looks like I'll be giving this thing an overhaul. Really nice lookin' hub, that's fer sure.

adjustment is much easier if you have the correct sachs tool to hold the locking nut washer thingy on the opposite side to the square end. alternatively make one out of a bit of flat bar. apparently if the hub begins to wear, the metal is so thick you can turn them out and get bigger shoes- quality all the way.
