Spotted a bike behind a barn on the way home last night poking out of the snow. I decided to knock on the door and the owners (in their 80's?) said i could have it. I managed to extract the bike and a loose set of sporty handlebars with a bent stem without dropping the barn on myself. Overall the rig was extremely rough and i probably shouldn't hvave bothered but the bike turned out to be a pre war Schwinn Excelsior middleweight w/26" wheels, rear facing drop outs & skiptooth. I was able to salvage the frame, truss rod fork, both fenders, (very rusty but probaby slavagable), skip tooth sprockets and crank and stem. Everything was super rusty. The grips were the best score though. not period but old Western Flyer molded molded grips with the tassles still in tact. I'll post up some pics at some point in the free trade column.
