Re: laid back seat post

Hey buddy! Thad, the guy you recently bought the bike from has a bike that he used a crank for the seatpost. Looked really cool & I was thinkin about stealing that idea myself. It's a good way to use an otherwise useless damaged crank, so go for it! Show us some pics when you do it! 8)

That's where I got the idea. I was talking about a laid back seat post with my dad and he said Thad had made an awesome one from an old crank but I have not seen it myself

It's pretty awesome lookin really! If you don't have an old crank, I'm sure I can come up with one that you can have.

Re: laid back seat post

Anyone ever chop a handlebar for one? Is it strong enough? I been thinking of making a kickback out of a set of bars but don't want to chop them if it won't work.

Great question! I have wondered that myself. I would assume (always gets me in trouble) they would be strong enough, but now you have me wondering. I guess it would depend on a persons weight. I'm sure someone on here has the answer. Reminds me of when my son decided to use a piece of electrical conduit on one of his bikes for a seat post. Lasted about 5 minutes!

Re: laid back seat post

I cut up a bent 7/8ths motorcycle handlebar into several different configs for just such. Im pretty sure they are a better tubing. I go 6'1" and about 210, they have been working out well for me.

huffy cranks work best since they are straight....the schwinne ones have an arch in the center
That's perfect thank you

cut one leg off crank the end that goes into bike was .080 to small so i cut a .040 shim and wrapped it around. The seat end was just a little big so i ran it on the bench grinder 8)
