I've seen a few on ebay and I think they are a pretty cheap bike, around $200 something new. With a price like that I'd expect low end components. It appears to be made by kent which is the same company that makes the GMC and Cadillac labeled road bikes you see at department stores. I'd say for the right price its probably an ok bike.

There are and have been a number of bicycles made with car-company names. In most cases, there is no connection between the bicycle and the car company other than some sort of licensing arrangement for use of the name. Consequently, use of a high-quality car name does not imply a high-quality bike. And usually the opposite, as high-end bikes will sell better under their own manufacturer's name. You'll also see John Deere bikes, Smith & Wesson bikes, beer-company bikes, etc.

I am mainly a road bike rider and i know these bikes aren't really worth the money. they are made with low quality parts that can't really be trusted. when people come into the shop that i work at with those bikes, they usually end up replacing most parts on it (especially the shifting) and they pay more to repair it than they did for the whole bike. also, the frames aren't very strong so they dent and crack easily. if you are looking for a go fast bike, you should probably look for a steel '80's road bike like a univega, fuji, or trek. they are reliable bikes for about the same price. 8)

I've been having trouble finding a suitable vintage bike for my first build, so I'm thinking about using a modern bike as a starting point, including a Lambo:

Are 'rods build upon such lowly bikes frowned upon as inauthentic? It won't stop me from aving fun with one, I'm just curios what the prevailing opinion is when it comes to 'rodding inexpensive Chinese bikes.

nice start off choices! to answer your question, its kinda like cars. an older one is always best, but with only so many old cruisers out there, some new ones can be cool too. i typically prfer american steel, and older bikes are built more solid and with better quality, but i have 3 chinese built cruisers (09 cranbrook, 08 next lajolla, and an 08 schwinn point beach 7spd) and they are cool in their own right and can make some cool builds. the best new cruisers out there are built by either electra or felt.

I like Tahiti’s. I also salvaged a trashed LaJolla that I have plans for.

Is this the same bike as the Kent made GMC Denali and the Genesis Roadtech? Is it a 14 or 21 speed? I saw the bar shifters and that’s what made me ask.
