Lucas odometer looking thingie

My "new" Schwinn Varsity came with a interesting thing attached. I tried to get a photo but my cheap digital camera doesn't take clear close-ups.It is some type of counter that was attached behind the right front axle nut and driven by something attached to a spoke.I removed it to examine it closely.It was made by Lucas . Guess it's a good thing it's not electric, huh? Everybody's heard the old joke I suppose...Why do the English drink warm beer? Because they have Lucas refrigerators. Anyway, does any body have one of these things or know the story on them? :?:

sounds like a simple old-style odometer. tick... tick... tick...the nub on the spoke moves the gear a little each revolution, the unit is calibrated for the wheel size.

im pretty sure your describing a cyclometer, its like an odometer for your bike, counts miles (maybe kilometers too :mrgreen: )

Yeah, I searched and found one on ebay among other places. I wonder how accurate they are.

as close as any other wheel driven speedo, they made them in different wheels sizes that i know of 20"/24"/26" and may have made them in 27" too, most of the time things like those and speedo drives are marked with the wheel size they are intended for on them somewhere.
