i have been using this trick for a few years. the early bendex hubs have brass shoes. i dont know why but they dont stop well at all. later hubs used the steel shoes which work much better and drop right into the early hubs.

Great tip! Is this the wee discs that get squeezed together to stop the hub or is it more the brake shoes like on a regular drum brake?
I'm going to be re-building an Bendix Automatic soon, and would love to use this.

Cheers Jonnie

It's a red band. Thanks for the link, that'll help alot. I'm away from home for two weeks so I'm going to spend time on it when I come back.
I don't want to do a rush job and not take notice of which way round the bearings go in.

Cheers Jonnie
