Seeing Skipton's bike the other nite inspired me to put this frame back on two wheels. Straightened the fork, went through the bearings bought a new chain, redid the pedals. I mounted the drive side pedal then went to the other side the threads were stripped out bad it doesn't even try to thread in.I wish that I would have noticed that when I had the crank out for cleaning and greasing.Time to break out the Tig welder.

I am ashamed to admit I did this once to a peddle and crank.

I was 8 or 9 years old broke a left side peddle on my beat up String Ray

Not knowing any better took a right peddle off another bike (not my sister’s I swear)

Would not go on hit it very hard with a hammer  to “get it started” wondered why it was

Getting so hot as I kept turning it to the right……….

Rode about a mile and it fell off

Wow 30 years later feels good to get that off my chest

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer

Welded it after work. Even got it straight! I may be able to remove the crank still but not sure.

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer

Finished up on the pedal and added a light. Need to add a tailight found a cool one at Advance Auto will convert to LED and run off front light. Acitone is bringing out some covered frame stensiling also.

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer

Yes the knees clear but the frame seems short so I'm building a set back seat post today. Gotta be ready for next Sat. Chicago ride!

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer

Lucky 7 to 13/16" seat post welded up and mounted. More room in the pilots seat now.

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer

Got a set of kenda Krads 2.3" off the "Free table" I set up at work to recycle stuff. Usually the stuff is junk. They look a lot fatter than the gumwalls. Now I need to do the seat.

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer

Gotta recover the seat found it pretty rusty. made a buck frome oak and used an old metal shelf for material. Cut metal about 3/8 beyond buck bolted it all together hammered it over the form. will weld together then weld on the spring studs.

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer Seat Work

There's just something therapeutic about beating a piece of metal into submission with a hammer.

Re: Manton & Smith Gold Eagle Pacer Seat Done

Seat was giving me trouble when welding the part I kept was thinner and rustier than I thought but done now.
