I wonder ... what would be the max safe rider weight for a typical three speed bike , or a common cruiser , like a Huffy Good Vibrations, for example? I weigh about 230 lbs. I usually make sure the tires on all my bikes have whatever is given on the tire as the maximum pressure. :?:

Hey Thom,ZOOT is a Huffy Good Vibrations.

http://ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic. ... IOT#p53954

Notice it was originally a single speed by the brake arm bracket rust on the left wheelstay.

Tho you may have me beat on the weight scale,I ride it hard over bumpy sidewalks and through the dirt,grass/lawns and any shortcut I can find.

Dont beleive the hype about about all Huffys being junk.

Hey Thom,If youre still concerned about weight ratings on bike frames...There is

Schwinn Heavy-Duti and Worksman.(Both $$$)

My worthless opinion...just build what ya got, enjoy it and dont worry about it.

My old Good Vibrations frame, while not made very precisely, is extremely durable, having taken some real abuse in earlier times, although some of the worst involved no rider weight at all (cliff-side bailouts, thrown from a bouncing 4x4, etc. ). The weakest point is those cheap hubs but if you keep 'em greased and ease into them, they'll handle weight ok. Also be sure to keep your rear wheel spokes snug.

i dont have to much experience with older bikes and big people but i know two bikes that will hold your butt up for a good long while. my grandpa rode his monark every day for about 10 years delivering newspapers, and he was at 270 ish when he passed away. still rode it till he hurt his leg a month before. my neighbor across the street is "husky at 344 pounds" (quote him) and all i had to do on his three speed huffy from target was change the pedals because he had a: big feet and b: bent one from cranking to hard. so honestly, i think you should be more than fine

I've riden a Gal on the back of my 20" purple Bratz "Grape Krate" replica more than once with no problem.
