Visiting the grand kids this eeekend and my son talked me into helping him reinstall this merry go round. This came from the old country school that my father-in-law attended when he was a kid. Best we can figure is that it was installed in the very early 1900’s as late as 1930. It was moved several times and he purchased it in 1980 and installed it on his farm for the kids and grand kids. When he died we sold the farm and my son wanted it for his acreage for his kids. I removed it, rebuilt all the bearing cages, made a new base and welded up a cage with the anchor bolts for the new concrete footing. Spent yesterday putting this giant erector set/ jig-saw puzzle back together. Grand kids were out there bright and early this morning riding on it. Brought lots of smiles to my and my wife’s faces. Now they just need to sand it down and repaint it. Another summer project for my son!
