Hello All. I'm trying to modify a springer fork to achieve more rake from it for a build I've been wrestling with for too long now. I've grown fairly frustrated with it... Has anyone done this in any way and been successful with it? Any insight and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks. :?

There are 2 easy options, One being a shorter spring via a cut off grinder wheel or Second finding or stretching the yoke that the spring assy. bolts to. When you start bending the fork legs , then yo will need to shorten the truss rods. If you go the chopped spring route, remember to cut a little at a time till you reach your goal. You cut too much on first attempt, you will be S.O.L.

Thanks Tim. I had my neighbor make me a new yolk in his metal shop. It's longer than the original by several inches. Once I started trying to reassemble it on the bike things went all crazy. Angles were all wrong and I couldn't get the bolt to bolt back in to the brace piece that fits over the steering tube. Cutting the spring hadn't occured to me and I don't know why. I used to cut the springs on my cars when I was younger. Do you recommend cutting from the fat end or narrow end? Thanks again.

I would start w/ the small end and about 3/4 of a coil. You may end up needing a shorter bolt also. Always remember to put grease on chrome bolts, they like to gald up.

Wouldn't a curved springer fork accomplish the same thing?
