Id say, put these puppies on rite side up, and moto cross this stuff up!

So I picked up a couple of things today for it. Got some cranks, and pedals. Pedals are Oddesy triple traps.

And got some chrome mountain bars. That's the look I had in my head. I like em. Seat is just sitting rust, to see if I like it. And. I cut down a Higgins fender I had, sorta like it.

Dude, that checker board is whats up! Looks straight up 50's hot rod race, sweet build! 8)

So my intent was to pait the bike. I was thinking orange to go with the rims. I do like the checkers, but I'm stuck on what to do with the fender, chain fairs, and white fork parts then. Paint them orange, or black, or white?

OK BUDDY TRY THIS!! BLACK FORKS-BLACK CHAIN GUARD(ORANGE WORDS)-BLACK FENDER(BUT IT LOOKS BETTER WITHOUT IT) IMHO. BUT FIRST STAND IN FRONT OF THE BIKE - CLOSE YA EYES- 3 DEEP BREATHS... LISTEN TO YA BIKE...NOW GET TA BUILDIN'!! PEACE

I was thinking that the fender had to stay off as well, just wanted one. lol. Havent had much time to work on it, and been messing with other stuff.

I think black would work, love satin black. Goes with the checkers. And do checker inserts on the chain gaurd. Think thats the deal. Gotta make a laid back seat post, weld the bb back on the seat tube and extend the steer tube, then get to painting, and redoing the tape a little better. Not much work but not much time to do it either so it may be be a bit till its all done, good thing its the start of winter. lol.

I hear ya on the light.

So the steer tube was to short and 1 1/8". The bottom bearings worked ok so I left the lower part of the steer tube. Cut off the top of the steer tube and drilled holes in it.

Cut a 1" tube and fit it to it.

1110121358.jpg

Set the length and plug welded it.

Thats it for now.Had to head out.

Thanks. Its my second Monark, I miss my old one it was a nice original paint light patina bike in green and white, same frame.

I'd figure the welds will hold. It was a bit of persuading with a sledge to get the extension in to where it is at.

Stupid little detail, but forgot to post it. Part of the purpose of extending the steer tube was to tie it into the top bracket like it was intended to. The top clamp is for 1 1/8" tube and now mines 1". So I used part of the old tube as a spacer. Cut it off using the bracket as a guide, clamped it in a bit short so it wasn't to long.

1110121310.jpg

Cleaned it up some then cut a notch so it worked with the clamp to tighten down on the steer tube.

Can't seem to get that pic to work

No major work accomplished, but despite being starting to get sick for the second time in just over a week I still worked on it tonight. Got the forks back together and the bar clamps notched and dug up a little sumpin I will leave out of the pics for now. Can't give it all away before its done.

Finally feeling good enough to work on this again. Bought some steel rod and tube to try and make a laid back seat post. Ended up being lucky that the tubing I bought fit into the current seat post and the rod then fit into that and was the perfect size for the seat clamp, some luck. Cut em to size and bent the rod with some help from some heat. Worked out well in the end. Glad to just be on my feet doing something instead of in bed cruising the internet wanting to be doing stuff.

Cut the seat post top off and also the curled in bottom.

Cut the new tubing to match

1121122041a.jpg

Fits like a glove

1121122042.jpg

All welded up, its welded at the bottom as well.

1121122132.jpg

And mounted.

1121122145.jpg

Tried the fender again and the section I cut off as a mock front sting as well for the heck of it

1121122147.jpg

Thats it for tonight.

Great fork and seatpost work!

Thanks for the kind words.

Sorry to disappoint anyone that had their hearts set on checkers, but I stripped it to bare metal and painted it satin black. Still a bunch of work to do. And something I haven't shown yet, but that made for a long black Friday, hey wait maybe that's its name or is that to stupid. Didn't realize I was painting it black on black Friday. lol. Anyway, here's a couple pics of where its at right now. I still need to strip and paint the chain guard, and I need to get the outer crank nut/race to match the Schwinn crank I have it didn't come with one. And a new chain, recover the seat (tossed a tan girls one on to see if I like the color)
Thinkin Brown seat and grips.

It still looks slick! I loved the checkerboard though and will use that idea on a bike at some point.

Great fab work on the fork and seat post, it's really getting a boardtracker look to it.

While the checker pattern was fun, I like the black better. With the black frame and the orange rims, you could do a subtle vintage Harley Davidson build. Like this, only with black/orange.

Whatever you do, do it!

Cheers,

Thanks. I love the btr's so its no surprise to me it evolved that way.

Ended up going back out last night and parted a Collegiate for the crank parts, and got them on along with the peddles and a kick stand. Looked all over for a chain today and finally found one at the fifth store. If I can find some time to get it on Ill take it fora spin.

1124122126.jpg

So I got it together enough to take it for a spin yesterday and a couple day time outside pics. Got plenty to do still, but really like the look of it so far. The grips I had were to big so they dont work, gotta find some and either vinyl or leather to recover the seat, and do some repairs on it as well.
